What is a damage waiver?
A damage waiver is a Latin term that means you just got taken for five extra dollars. It is merely a means to up your cost for no extra benefit. Read the contract – it only covers repairable damage, not replacement. If it is repairable and cleanable we are not going to charge you for it.
If the bride’s dress is ivory, do the guys wear ivory shirts?
Absolutely not. We don’t even sell retail ivory shirts. Why? Well, we’ll let you in on a little trade secret – ivory shirts don’t exist outside the rental industry. That’s because you will never get an ivory dye to match – which means that Instead of your groomsmen having matching shirts, they will have five different shades of ivory.
How do I tie my bowtie?
If you were to look at every chart and video on the Internet, chances are you would still not be able to tie a bowtie. What you would be is frustrated. It’s because it’s not that easy and trying to follow drawings doesn’t work. Step 6 of the instructions is the one you can’t draw – it has to be explained. What you really need to do is come on in and let us show you how to do it. In fact, we’ll make a deal with you. If you come and you are able to tie a bowtie within 15 minutes, we’ll give you 10% off the price of the bowtie. However, if you can’t do it, no worries because all of the self-tie bowties we sell have a mechanism in back which allows us to tie it for you. All you have to do is button in and out of it through the back. Genius! A self-tied bow that you don’t have to tie yourself! Grooms should really consider buying a bowtie as they look much nicer than pre-tied bows.
Should I buy or rent a tuxedo?
This is a budget issue that makes each person’s situation a little bit different. The advantages of buying over renting are fit and fabric. Alterations on rental tuxes are not very extensive. If you are looking for the “perfect” fit, it usually entails purchasing over renting. That doesn’t mean you have to buy the most expensive. It just means there are many more alterations that can be done to something you are buying. The fabric and construction of retail tuxedos are much softer than that of rental tuxedos, making the drape and hand of the fabric apparent. One other point to consider is that if you consistently rent a tuxedo two or more times a year it makes monetary sense to purchase one.
How is a groom distinguished from his groomsmen?
This can be done in a few different ways. The first, and most formal, is a different boutonniere only for the groom. The second would be to wear different accessories than the rest of the party while keeping the coat style the same. A third very common way is for the groom to buy his tuxedo in a comparable aesthetic style. The groom is distinguished by the apparent difference in quality while keeping the coat model the same. We sell comparable retail styles for just about all of our rental styles.
Do you think the guys in my wedding will like wearing bright colored vests and ties to match the girls dresses?
Quite honestly the answer is no unless they are trying to re-live their high school prom. Today's weddings are classic, sophisticated and timeless so the trend is to keep the guys neutral or with just a hint of color in the tie. Your guys will probably be so grateful that they just might keep the tux on longer. After all, they can still have as much fun at your wedding as they did at their prom without having to look like a flash from the past and your wedding video won't look like an episode of "That 70's Show".
The pictures definitely tell the story of what is a do and what is a don't for a classic, elegant wedding.
What should I get my guys for groomsmen gifts?
This is the toughest question we face from almost every bride and groom. Everyone wants to get their guys something unique that is useful – not just the same old engraved beer mug that sits in the back of your cabinet collecting dust. This is the groom’s opportunity to find a creative way to thank his guys for standing up or ushering in his wedding, sometimes at considerable personal expense. We offer an outstanding selection of distinctive gift items right here in our store. They include an extensive line of unique cuff links (over 100 to choose from) to suit each personality, some of the finest dress shirts and neckties from Italy, London and the US.
What is the smallest size you carry for ring bearers?
The smallest size available for rental is a 3 toddler. However, we offer a brand new line of tuxedos for purchase that go from 9 months to 6 toddler. This is a great option to give the mother and father of a ring bearer who would rather own the tux for the same or lower price of a rental.
How do my out-of-town groomsmen get fitted if you only have locations in Chicagoland?
Simple. It’s an industry courtesy that you can walk into any formalwear store in the country and get a complimentary fitting at no charge. It takes about five minutes. Your groomsmen can then submit their measurements online or fax the measurements to us (you can download a form to send us here). Their tuxedo will be ready for them when they arrive in the Chicagoland area. This is much easier than trying to pick up their tux in the city they are coming from as they avoid any extra charges for an extended rental, the possibility of lost luggage and tuxedo, or having to come back the next day for fit adjustments – if their travel arrangements allow it! When you think about it, being a nationwide company isn’t really an advantage. What is an advantage is having the merchandise on our premises so even if one of your men shows up an hour before the wedding, we can fit, alter and get him to the wedding on time!
Do you deliver and pick up tuxedos?
Yes, we do! Hotel pick up and delivery is available for an additional fee. Just arrange for it ahead of time. We ride bicycles to work a lot, so don’t be surprised to see us show up pedaling your tuxedo to your door. We won’t charge extra for human horsepower!
When should we register for tuxedos?
“The sooner, the better” is the logic here. While registering early is important, it’s really the measurements that are needed in a timely manner so we can ensure the proper inventory. We also know you have more important things to attend to than worrying one week before your wedding if your guys were measured yet. We prefer about four to six months out or sooner for registering, but that doesn’t mean we can’t help you if your wedding is next week. We’re used to procrastinators.
What’s the catch to your “50% OFF INVITATIONS” promotion?
This question usually pertains to brides, although after doing invitations for 15 years, we have seen one or two grooms (OK – just one!) do an invitation order. THERE IS NO CATCH! We offer the invitations, reception cards, response cards and thank you’s ALL at wholesale prices (50% off book price) to weddings that are getting their tuxedos with us. This is typically a savings of $200 to $400. That’s right, we make $0 on this one, but it does allow us the opportunity to show you how important you are to us.
